Bendigo Butternut is a superb medium to small butternut squash/pumpkin with intense orange flesh, deep sweet flavour, and smooth texture, perfect for home gardeners and small households. Five years in development, we crossed the best compact butternuts, grew them with no irrigation or fertiliser and minimal bed preparation, and selected for flavour, colour, small seed cavity and overall plant resilience, while maintaining high genetic diversity. There are no primadonnas in this gene pool. We keep the diversity high in this landrace, so at least some plants will produce no matter what the climate throws at us.
