Description
Ten years ago when we asked “why isn’t there a purple baby carrot?”. It seems no one had bothered, so we decided to breed one ourselves. From a mix of orange, white, yellow and purple carrots of all shapes and sizes we selected for quick growth, short golfball-sized roots with a lovely purple/magenta colour and great flavour, adapted to the shallow soils and fickle seasons of central Victoria. The diverse parentage is obvious when you cut them, the interior revealing a rainbow of white, yellow, orange and magenta and occasional green, with a purple sunburst pattern in some roots. We keep this line diverse to maintain genetic vigour and plant resilience. Gorgeous on the plate, these fantastic snacking carrots might not make it from the garden to the kitchen. A Useful Seeds exclusive line, pledged to the Open Source Seed Initiative.
