Description

We have limited stocks of Bendigo-grown saffron crocus corms again this year.
Saffron crocus (Crocus sativa) develops beautiful mauve/purple flowers in autumn when the thin grass-like leaves emerge. Harvest the orange stamens in the morning just as the flowers open, and dry to make your own saffron threads, the most expensive spice in the world.
Plant 5-8 cm deep in good soil in late summer/early autumn. Keep weed-free. New bulbs develop around the mother bulb over winter and spring. Will naturalise. Lift and divide every 3-4 years. Grown in Bendigo.
A: 10 corms 2-3 grams each Establishment size. Will initially increase in number and corm size and flower after one or two seasons, perfect for establishing a population.
B: 5 corms 3-5 grams each (5 cent coin size). Will flower after one year once corms increase in size and number.
C: 4 corms 5-8 grams each (10 cent coin size) Likely to flower this year depending on conditions, and will reach premium size with increasing number of corms after one year.
D: 2 corms greater than 9 grams each (50 cent coin size) Premium size Corms this size are rarely offered for sale. Should flower this season, with increased potential for more large corms and increased corm multiplication.
